The Harsh Reality

​

The facts are that there is so much misinformation being perpetuated concerning health, weight loss and supplements, that the true information gets lost in the mix. This has resulted in Hundreds of weight loss programs and supplements to solve the weight loss crisis which continues to worsen (notice that the weight loss/supplement promoters don't say anything about the health crisis which also continues to worsen).

 

Dr. Meline noticed this phenomenon over 40 years ago. As a young Airman in the United States Air Force, he started down his road of Health and Physical fitness. Along the way, he too got caught up in the fallacies promoted by the exercise, diet and supplement industries.

 

Over time, his education and inquisitive nature enabled him to see problems between the advertised benefits of the various programs and products, and the actual results that people obtained from using them. He spent many years researching these discrepancies until he was able to extract the truth about health, weight loss, diet and exercise.

 

He summarized his discoveries in the book "Lies Exposed!" and its companion book "Stop the BS!" These books are the basis for his diet, health, and weight loss coaching programs. See Dr. Meline's bio.


Where The Health Problem Begins


Each of us has our own style of eating. We started developing this style as a child by learning how to eat from our parents. As we became more independent, we started selecting foods that we enjoy most, probably not considering their nutritional value. When we became adults, there were several other factors that determined our diet, such as who we are living with. If there are children involved, we have to decide what to feed them that is "nutritious" but at the same time affordable.​


Society's eating habits

 

Over many decades, the changes in the eating habits of society have led to living off of poorly nutritious, high calorie foods. These are comprised of fast food, snacks, pop, candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, microwave meals, boxed cereal, canned foods, etc. As the use of these food items has increased, the weight and health problems have correspondingly increased, and nutritional health has correspondingly decreased.  People have also embraced a false sense of what constitutes good nutrition so that they are unaware of how poorly nutritious their diets are. These factors have opened the door to a multitude of diet plans and supplements to solve the weight and health crisis.


The medical community

 

Unfortunately, the medical community has not helped the situation. It treats the health and obesity crisis as a disease, not decades of poor nutrition and inappropriate diets. Although it makes statements concerning the use of better diets to curb the crisis, its actions are toward using more medications, surgery and other means of achieving "ideal" body weight. This is probably an extension of their general philosophy that if the body is malfunctioning, it takes medication or surgery to bring it back to normal. Unfortunately, they do not try to correct the underlying cause for the malfunctioning, which in a vast number of cases is poor nutrition.​


What Went Wrong?


The biggest contributor to the health and weight problems that we face today is MISINFORMATION! The weight crisis has opened the door for literally hundreds of weight loss/health products and weight loss programs. For the past several decades, these various entities have perpetuated many fallacies concerning health, weight loss, and dieting. The majority of them promote information that is skewed to meet their agenda, and some of the data is just blatantly wrong. An unfortunate consequence is that many fallacies have been perpetuated for so long that they have been accepted as truth.

The government didn't help things when in 1994 they decided to treat supplements as food products. This allowed companies to freely produce any concoction they can conceive of, and make claims about these products which are never substantiated or challenged by anyone.​


Avoiding Being Deceived


The greatest challenge that we face in pursuit of health and desired weight is summed up by this quote from Mark Twain, "It is easier to fool people than to convince them that they are being fooled." To this point, we have all been exposed to a great deal of propaganda that has convinced us that in order to be healthy and lose weight, we must use some special supplement(s) and/or program. This makes it very easy to accept the information being promoted as being valid. However, most promoters of supplements and diet programs have agendas other than your health and well-being.
 

Very concerning is that the companies providing any consumable products are not required to prove that their products give the advertised results. They are free to make any statements as long as they do not claim that their products diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease. Here are a few examples of generalized scenarios to illustrate this phenomenon.

Diet and Supplement Fallacies
 

Some weight loss program (with or without the use of supplements that they provide) leads clients to believe that they can lose 30 pounds or more in their first month. This is very unrealistic, but the client doesn't know that. These claims are again fallacies that rely on the client's unfamiliarity with physiology and dire need to lose weight quickly without having to exert significant effort. When the client fails to achieve the 30 pound weight loss as advertised what happens? The company uses the disclaimer; "Not everyone is able to achieve these results."

Suppose that there is a product which claims to "melt" fat away. The product also has the instructions to reduce caloric intake by some method that they describe. We follow the plan exactly (which ensures a deficiency of calories necessary to lose weight), and sure enough we lose weight. Wow, this product must really work. What really happens is that our effort to follow their diet plan resulted in the weight loss, not the use of their product. Since having tried "dieting" before without success, it must have been from their product.

Take an example of another product that promises the same thing, but now we can eat anything that we want. We use the product and sure enough we don't lose weight. We complain to the company and they give us the disclaimer; "Not everyone is able to achieve these results." They recommend that we keep trying as the results will come. We keep trying, but the results never come, so we give up on the product. The company knew that this product does not work, so why would they even try such a thing?


Reality


Why would someone want to provide such a product as described in these scenarios? A simple example will illustrate the motivation. Bear in mind that I am not trying to say that these people are dishonest. What I'm trying to point out is that these products and services are perpetuated because of the enormous amount of misinformation. It is very easy for supplement companies to think that they are providing a useful product for weight loss, improved memory, better endurance for exercise, rapid strength gain for weightlifters, etc., without providing any actual benefit. They have also been duped by the enormous amount of misinformation.

 

An Example


For this example, suppose a supplement company comes up with some concoction that they claim will melt our fat away as in the example above. Remember that none of these claims are ever challenged and they are not required to prove that any of their claims are true. Just to make the math easy, let's say that their product costs the consumer $20.00 per bottle and we need to use two bottles per month. Their cost to make the product, market it, mail it to us, etc. is $15.00 per bottle. Therefore, their profit is $5.00 per bottle, or $10.00 per month per user. Let's say that the average user tries for six months before giving up, and over a 12-month period, they convince 100,000 people to try their product.

How much do they profit? They have 100,000 users, using 12 bottles of product (2 bottles per month for 6 months) at a profit of $60.00 per user ($5 per bottle times 12 bottles). This equates to $6,000,000.00 per year ($60 per user times 100,000 users). Yes, that is Six Million Dollars per year. Even at half of the profit, that is a pretty nice income for doing nothing except making our life and health worse.

 

These companies don't just make one product. They produce many products, and each one is probably sold to a lot more than 100,000 people and is used for much more than six months. Also, highly successful athletes, celebrities, etc. have their special concoction  of whatever which made them what they are, so of course you need to use it so you can be like them. Their income is quite lucrative from these products. We can now see one of the incentives for so many products.


Now What?


Another problem that we will face is, if we reach our goal, what do we do now? The usual result is a return to our previous bad habits, ending up in the same condition or worse off than we were before starting that special program or using those special products.

Remember the quote from Mark Twain mentioned above? This is where that quote comes into effect. It is going to be difficult for us to let go of all the fallacies and lies that we have accepted and become accustomed to. We will not want to let go of the idea that we can take a pill and eat whatever we want and lose weight. What is even worse, we are unlikely to pursue options that improve our nutritional health.

 

All Is Not Lost


Once we are willing to embrace the idea that our previous beliefs just may be wrong, we will be able to start learning the truth. Knowing the truth, we will come to realize how we have been duped by the diet, supplement and exercise communities, and unfortunately, in many cases, by the health industry itself. Yes, even the medical community unwittingly promotes many fallacies.

There are many psychological factors that come into play as you embrace making necessary life changes. This information is also presented in such a way that it can be understood by anyone.

 

Using this information, you will be guided in establishing YOUR OWN health and weight loss program. Nutritional health is the most important aspect of your overall health. When you learn to eat appropriately, your nutritional health will improve, and you will lose weight as a result.

It is a well-established fact that when obese people just lose weight, their medical health improves dramatically. Type II diabetes is reduced or eliminated. Hypertension (high blood pressure) improves. Cancer risks are reduced, and there are several more health conditions that are improved just by losing weight without consideration of nutrition. Just think about how much more your health could improve by also greatly improving your nutritional health.


Remove Stress


Because of programs like The Biggest Loser, people have the impression that they must embrace extreme diets and pursue intense exercise programs in order to lose weight. Nutritional health is rarely if ever embraced. These impressions could not be farther from the truth. The process that you need to go through is not a stressful process. It can actually be fun as you learn facts about health and nutrition, and apply them in a non-stressful way that works for you. Note that there is No need for a radical diet or extreme exercise.

As important as exercise is for optimum health, it has no place in a weight loss program. At the appropriate time, you will be coached on how to use exercise to maximize your health. If you cannot exercise for some reason, don't worry. You will still be able to maximize your nutritional health, which is the most important aspect of your health.

You have spent many years  getting to where you are, so don't get in a hurry to get to your ideal weight and health. There is no timetable that you have to adhere to, or unrealistic goals to aim for. You advance on your plan in a way that is comfortable to you, but at the same time, getting you to your health and weight goals. If you follow your health plan that SS-Health will help you put together, you WILL achieve your desired weight and be nutritionally healthy at the same time without the use of any supplements or diet plans.


Accountability

You will only be accountable to yourself. After all, once you learn how to be truly healthy and get to your desired weight, who is going to be looking over your shoulder? Do you want to pay someone to be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life to make sure that you are maintaining your health plan? Of course you don't. So if you can't learn to be accountable to yourself while you are being coached, how can you be accountable when no one is helping you?

For example, I know of many physicians who have patients on weight loss plans. Even with accountability to a physician, most of these people do not adhere to their weight loss plan. In one instance, the patient was observed eating at a fast food restaurant the same day as she was seen by her physician. She had proclaimed that she was adhering to her diet plan which strictly prohibited eating at fast food places.

Your success is going to depend on how willing you are to develop and use your own personal health plan. It is all up to you. SS-Health can teach you the information that you need to know, help you develop your own personal health plan, and motivate you to pursue it. But No One is going to be able to force you to pursue your health plan. This is entirely up to you.
